Teeth whitening like any procedure has it s disadvantages too Modern man seems incomplete without having sparkling smile Although it is not too dangerous, people who rush into teeth whitening experience side effects. Yes, there is nothing wrong with having a nice bright smile but one must not get addicted to it, as it will be harmful to your teeth and gums. People who suffer from teeth whitening side effects like pain had most likely over-used teeth whitening products

One unfavorable teeth whitening side effect is the sensitivity of your teeth caused by the treatment. Also it doesn't matter whether one is using a home whitening kit or in-office treatment, there are inidividuals  who are very vulnerable to teeth sensitivity. A majority of over the counter products contain  chemicals like Hydrogen Peroxide that must be used carefully by having the right amount and concentration to get good results Improper  usage and quantity  cause your teeth’s enamel to deteriorate. In addition, prolonged bleaching can lead to severe irritation in the gums and teeth.

Gum irritation is not a typical side effect. In some  cases, gums have been  irritated after being subjected  to the whitening process. The gums or sensitive areas of the mouth are covered to avoid irritation that may come from the UV light. A temporary solution is to avoid teeth whitening procedures for at least three to five days so  the  irritated areas can heal.

Some dentists prefer to use dental dams to reduce teeth whitening side effects  Dental dams are helpful since these prevents the bleaching agent from seeping into the gums and other sensitive areas of the mouth The best advice is to go to your dentist first before administering any teeth whitening products. Only dental professionals can figure out  the right amount of bleaching agent that must be used so side-effects are minimal The dosage is different for every person since the severity of the stains must also be relative to the strength of the bleaching product.

Teeth whitening products can inlcude chemical bleaches that can lead to  stomach pain, burning sensation and vomiting when accidentally swallowed Caution must be exercised in using over the counter teeth whitening products since abuse or accidental ingestion can cause harm.
